How to extract a RAR file in 3 steps

  1. Drop the .rar archive

Drag the file onto the tool above or click to choose it. Your browser opens it locally; there is no upload and no waiting queue.

  2. Choose what to extract

The archive opens as a file tree with sizes and folder structure. Preview text files and images, then select everything or only what you actually need.

  3. Download your files

Save a single file directly, or pack your selection into one clean ZIP. Either way, the files are written straight from your device.

Good to know before you extract

Extraction keeps files intact

Extracting a RAR does not recompress anything: files come out exactly as they were stored. If you then pack a ZIP, only that step re-compresses.

Size is bounded by memory

The archive has to fit in your device's memory while it is open. A phone handles small archives fine; for a multi-gigabyte one, use a desktop browser and close other tabs.

Sources matter more than tools

An extractor cannot make a dangerous file safe. Check where the archive came from, and preview its contents before pulling anything out.

Runs wherever your browser runs

This is a plain web page, not an installed app, so there is nothing to set up.

Windows

Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Windows 10 and 11. No administrator rights, no installer.

macOS

Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. The extraction runs on your Mac, which also makes it a quick fix when The Unarchiver is not at hand.

Phones and tablets

Mobile browsers work for small and medium archives. Large ones can exhaust a phone's memory, so move those to a desktop.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract a RAR file online without installing software?

Drop the .rar file into the tool at the top of this page. The archive opens as a file tree; select the files you want and download them. The whole extraction runs in your browser, so nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded.

Is this online RAR extractor really free?

Yes. No account, no daily cap, no per-file fee. The tool runs on your own device, so there is no server cost to pass on to you.

Can I extract only some files from the archive?

Yes. That is the normal way to use it: untick what you do not want and download the rest, one by one or packed as a ZIP. You can also preview text and images before deciding.

What happens if the archive is password-protected?

The tool asks for the password, decrypts the archive locally, and never sends the password anywhere. If it is rejected, the password is wrong. Encrypted split volumes are not supported.

How big a RAR can I extract online here?

There is no fixed cap. The archive must fit in your device's memory while it is open, so the practical limit depends on your machine. Desktop browsers handle the largest files.

Does extracting a RAR lose quality?

No. Extraction is lossless: files are written out exactly as they were stored. Recompression would only happen if you then packed the files into a new archive.

Do you extract split archives like .part1.rar?

Yes. Drop all volumes of the set together and they are joined before extraction. Missing volumes are reported by number, so you know exactly which part to find.
