When an unzip does not go to plan
'The archive is corrupt'
Most often the download was interrupted or the file was cut off. If the error mentions a volume number, a part of a split set is missing: fetch all parts and drop them together.
Password rejected
RAR encryption has no recovery: the password must match exactly, including case. If even the filenames are hidden, the archive encrypts filenames too; this engine decrypts that locally as well, with the right password.
Out of memory on big archives
The archive must fit in memory while it is open. On a phone or an old machine, a multi-gigabyte RAR can fail midway; retry on a desktop with other tabs closed.

No. Unzipping writes out the stored bytes unchanged. Recompression would only happen if you then packed the files into a new archive.
